Pastoral Team

Chris Taylor (Pastor)

Chris is married to Annie and they have three children – Georgia, Jack and Meg.

He became the pastor of Deni Baptist in February 2017, after nearly ten years at Grace Evangelical Church in Newcastle. Originally from Tasmania, Chris spent three years as a youth pastor before studying theology at SMBC from 2004–6. As a pastor, his desire is to be used by God to grow people toward spiritual maturity in Christ.

In  an  earlier  life, Chris  worked as an  employment  consultant, training  people to start  their own  micro-enterprise. His interests outside of church life are current affairs, politics, art and architecture. He plans to retire in a converted shipping container.

Cliff Hampton (Elder)

Cliff is married to Ruth and has two children, Naarah and Rachel. They moved to Deniliquin a bit over ten years ago after living for a time in Goulburn.
Cliff hails from the Emerald Isle, better known as, Ireland, but had made a number of trips to Australia with family before deciding that Australia was a great place to live.

His favourite Bible verse is from the Old Testament:

The end of the matter; all has been heard.
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 (ESV)

If he could invite any three people (living or dead) for a meal, he would invite Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking and Jesus. Dawkins and Hawking because if they knew the truth and then could tell others about this amazing and beautiful world that God created, just imagine how many people they could lead to the truth of Jesus being the King of kings, Lord of lords and Saviour of the world. Jesus because He would be able to correct their wrong thinking about (1) the existence of God; (2) the Rule of God; (3) the consequences of ignoring God; and (4) the rescue plan God has for those who will listen – eternal life through faith in Jesus.

Spare time activities? – What spare time!! “I’d like to say learning the guitar but I’m no good at it and get frustrated – so that can’t be it. Must be relaxing by being on the river in a boat; no swimming, it’s too wet.” Cliff is also known to collect old farm memorabilia, such as rusting seeders and ploughs, which he proudly displays around his house yard.

For Cliff, the favourite things about our church are its friendly, caring atmosphere and the teaching of Bible truth.

John Fowler (Elder)

John is an extension agronomist who has worked both publicly and privately in the Deniliquin district since 1980.  His main professional interest is temperate rice production. He also has a small irrigation property where he grows rice (water permitting) and runs beef cattle. He enjoys the challenges and rewards of running the property which seems to take up all his ‘spare’ time.

John’s wife, Robyn, is currently employed as a School Chaplin at two district primary schools.  They have four adult children and nine grandchildren (and hoping for more!).

John has served numerous terms on the eldership since its inception.  He has a passion for biblical teaching and is a strong advocate for small groups.  He is currently leading studies for a young adults group and attends a men’s bible study.

His current ‘favourite’ bible verses are from the New Testament:

… present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:1-2
John enjoys the diversity and friendliness of the Deniliquin Baptist Church.  He appreciates the strong biblically based teaching the church has enjoyed particularly in recent years.

Shane Moorse (Elder)

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ~ Romans 5:8
